I've been wanting to do tricking for many years but could not find anyone who shared the same interest. The only way I could do some of the moves was to mess about. What stopped me was not knowing how to do some of the other moves. of course I watched youtube tutorials but that only helps to give you the gist of things. For it to be more beneficial I needed someone to point out what I was doing wrong and give me advice. I was not going to get that by myself.
Then I joined Warrior Dynamics where I met tricker Ben and tricker/freerunner mike. The both of them gave helpful tips and advice that helped out alot.
Ben lives near me so I tried to join his uni tricking society. Unfortunately I could not make the times they were on. At that point in time I was working in a bar and worked every Friday. However I got a new job and became more flexible (woohoo) but most times I couldn't make it.
My first tricking session was on 17.06.11. After years of wanting to do tricking I finally got my opportunity to be apart of a tricking session and boy was I excited. Sadly Ben couldn't make it but that was fine. Then I got there.
Ater everyone warmed up it was time to get the show started. I felt abit out of place. An outsider to a group who have been training for years and who all can defy the laws of physics. Thats when the self-conciousness kicked in. I can do some minor tricks like 540 and a few times on accident i've done a sideswipe. Everyone in the group were doing tricks that looked easy to pull off but difficult in action. Tricks that I could only dream of doing. It was a little bit detering.
Then one of the trickers came over and asked me what tricks I can do and what I'd like to do. I want to be an all round tricker. Learning from the start, so this humble helpful tricker gave me advice on some tricks I thought I could do ok, like a butterfly kick and it's evolved form, the B-twist. Although I didn't land any of the tricks, I did gain a better understanding on how to do the tricks. All I need to do is drill it until I get it. The other members of the group gave me tips to perfect my 540 and ariel. Even though I felt a little bit out of place and thought I would be laughted at by my attemps, I became more at ease with the tips, help and the welcoming nature of the group.
I definately will be going back to the tricking group again when it doesn't clash with work. hopefully I will be on par with the rest of the group if I keep it up.
